This technical brief provides practical guidance for strengthening synergies between nutrition and social protection in humanitarian settings across Eastern and Southern Africa. It outlines UNICEF’s priorities in both sectors and presents ten actionable steps to design, coordinate, and deliver integrated responses that prevent maternal and child malnutrition during crises while building synergies between social protection and nutrition. Drawing on global guidance and regional experience, the brief highlights how smarter use of data, systems mapping, coordinated financing, nutrition‑responsive cash transfers, and convergence of multi‑sectoral services can be used to provide more integrated support for women and children during emergencies while building synergies between nutrition and social protection sectors.
