The Ministry of Health of Djibouti is collaborating with the People’s Republic of China through the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) on a two-year UNICEF project to enhance primary healthcare systems and strengthen the resilience of rural and peri-urban communities.

More than 120,000 people, including 80,000 children and nearly 20,000 women living in vulnerable areas in the northern and inland regions of the country, will benefit from improved access to health, nutrition, safe drinking water and sanitation.

'UNICEF thanks the Government of Djibouti and the People’s Republic of China for their commitment to children’s rights and well-being. This partnership comes at a critical time, as the most vulnerable children face the effects of climate change, resource scarcity, and a complex international context,' said Ramatou Touré, UNICEF Representative in Djibouti.

In partnership with the Government of Djibouti and the People’s Republic of China, and in close collaboration with the Rural Water Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture, UNICEF is providing an integrated response to communities' essential needs. This multi-sectoral project, based on the active involvement of local communities and institutions, will help to sustainably strengthen primary health services and improve access to water, sanitation and nutrition for the benefit of children, women and their families.
