UNICEF believes that strong communications, partnerships and collaborative relationships are critical to delivering results for children and realizing their rights. Since our inception, we have worked with a broad range of partners across the globe to achieve these outcomes in line with UNICEF’s equity focus. Moreover, we work with different sectors of society to raise funds that support UNICEF’s programmes for children.

Job functions in external relations fall under three major categories:

Communication and external relations

Our communication experts aim to:

  • win support from decision-makers and the wider public for the cause of children;
  • help UNICEF become an even stronger advocacy, campaigning and communications force for children; and
  • collaborate across UNICEF and with partners to secure children’s rights.

For these positions we normally require an advanced university degree in communication, journalism, public relations or a related field.

Private fundraising and partnerships

The private sector plays a crucial role in delivering results for children. Our fundraising and partnership colleagues work towards enhancing this by helping raise vital revenue and by supporting advocacy and delivery of the children’s rights agenda.

For these positions, we normally require an advanced university degree in business management, communication, marketing, international relations, social sciences or a related field.

Alliances and resource mobilization

Also known as Public Partnerships, our colleagues here work towards positioning UNICEF strategically in the global development landscape as a partner of choice for children’s rights among governments and public actors around the world. They focus on developing, mobilizing and managing these partnerships.

For these positions, we normally require an advanced university degree in social sciences, international relations, government affairs, public administration, public policy or a related field.
