JPO selection criteria
Are you eligible for JPO positions?
Each Donor Government might define different eligibility requirements. Please see the criteria for each country below.
Austria sponsors its JPOs for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 3 years.
Minimum requirements
-Austrian citizenship;
-A minimum of 5-year university studies;
-Fluency in English and another UN official language;
-Maximum of four years of professional experience;
-32 years old or below upon starting the assignment.

Belgium sponsors its JPOs for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 3 years.
Minimum requirements for Belgian nationals
-Belgian citizenship;
-Master’s degree or equivalent;
-A minimum of two years of relevant work experience;
-32 years old or below as of 31 December of the year of application.
Minimum requirements for partner country nationals
-National of one of Belgium’s partner countries;
-Master’s degree or equivalent;
-A minimum of two years of relevant work experience;
-32 years old or below as of 31 December of the year of application.

Canada sponsors its JPOs for a duration of 2 years.
Minimum requirements to apply
-Canadian citizenship;
-Master’s degree or equivalent;
-Have a minimum of two years of relevant work experience.
China sponsors its JPOs for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 3 years.
Minimum requirements
- Chinese citizenship;
- Master’s degree or equivalent;
- A minimum of two years of relevant work experience;
Denmark sponsors its JPOs for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 3 years.
Minimum requirements to apply
-Danish citizenship;
-A complete Bachelor’s degree;
-At least two years of relevant, paid professional experience;
-Fluency in English and knowledge of another official UN language;
-Knowledge and interest in Denmark’s international development cooperation.

Finland sponsors its JPOs for a minimum of two years and a maximum of four years.
Minimum requirements to apply
-Finnish citizenship;
-Master’s degree or equivalent;
-Minimum of two years of relevant work experience.
France sponsors its JPOs for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 3 years.
Minimum requirements to apply
-French citizenship;
-Master’s degree or equivalent;
-Minimum of two years of relevant work experience.
Germany sponsors its JPOs for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 4 years.
Minimum requirements to apply
-German citizenship;
-Master’s degree or equivalent;
-Two to four years of professional experience after graduation.

Italy sponsors its JPOs for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 3 years.
Minimum requirements for Italian nationals
-Born on or after 1 January 1988 (1 January 1985 for graduates in Medicine);
-Italian citizenship;
-Fluency in English and Italian;
-An advanced university degree completed before the application deadline.
Minimum requirements for partner country nationals
-Born on or after 1 January 1988 (1 January 1985 for graduates in Medicine);
-National of partner country;
-Fluency in English (knowledge of Italian will be considered favorably in the assessment);
-An advanced university degree completed before the application deadline.

-Japanese citizenship;

Luxembourg sponsors its JPOs for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 3 years.

-Luxembourgish citizenship;
-Master’s degree or equivalent;
-Minimum of two years of relevant work experience.

The Netherlands sponsors its JPOs for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 3 years.
Minimum requirements for Dutch nationals
-Dutch citizenship;
-Master’s degree or equivalent;
-Minimum of two years and maximum of four years of relevant work experience.
Minimum requirements for partner country nationals
-Candidates should be nationals of eligible countries;
-Part of the candidates’ academic training must have taken place in a developing country that appears on the list of eligible countries.

Qatar sponsors its JPOs for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 3 years.

- A complete Bachelor's degree;
- A minimum of two years of relevant work experience;
The Republic of Korea sponsors its JPOs for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 3 years.

-South Korean citizenship;
-Master’s degree or equivalent;
-Minimum of two years of relevant work experience.
Rwanda sponsors its JPOs for a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 3 years.

Rwanda citizenship;
