Because of this epidemic outbreak, UNICEF continues to mobilize its resources to eradicate measles. Installing an isolation tent has allowed over twenty children in Mukenke to receive appropriate care, thus reducing the risk of transmission. "Before, we had to place two sick children in the same bed due to lack of space, which delayed their recovery," explains Narsis Ntahondi, director of Mukenke Hospital. "Now, we can isolate each child, allowing for better monitoring and an improvement in their condition." This tent makes care more targeted, and contaminations are reduced.

This isolation tent at Mukenke hospital allows patients with measles to be treated and prevents transmissions. The tent hosts children and a few adults affected by the disease.

The story of Ciella Uwiteka, a seven-month-old girl, clearly illustrates the impact of this initiative. "My daughter was seriously ill, but thank God, she is recovering," says her mother, Odile Ininahazwe. "The doctors reassured me, and today, Ciella is much better."

Not far from the Mukenke hospital, at the Mukenke health center, we met Evelyne Niyongere, mother of three children, who came to vaccinate her youngest. Evelyne's gratitude is evident as she shares her story. She is grateful to have been able to vaccinate her children against measles for free after her youngest daughter, Cynthia Niyakire, suffered a lot from the disease. Cynthia was hospitalized for three weeks without external aid, as their family lives far from this province. She has now returned from hospitalization and is recovering. Evelyne, her mother, expresses great gratitude towards the healthcare staff for the care provided and the support received, emphasizing the importance of vaccination to protect children against measles.

UNICEF continues to unite its efforts to fight measles in the Kirundo province. By offering practical solutions and strengthening local health systems, UNICEF protects and saves lives, thus building a healthier future for the community.
