Bujumbura, Burundi – March 11, 2024 – UNICEF Burundi is pleased to announce the visit of Dr. Víctor Aguayo, Director, Nutrition and Child Development, at the global level, to Burundi from March 11 to 15, 2024. Accompanied by Ms. Christiane Rudert, the Regional Nutrition Advisor, the mission aims to bolster national efforts in combating malnutrition in all its forms and enhance child well-being across the country.

During their stay, the mission will engage with government officials, bilateral and multilateral donors, UN agencies, and various Nutrition sector partners, including NGOs and CSOs to discuss Burundi's nutrition issues, explore strategic ways to combine our efforts to prevent and reduce malnutrition and mobilize both public and external resources. This visit will also be an opportunity to discuss the Global Nutrition Strategy 2020-2030 vision and its alignment with the country's priorities.

Field visits in Gitega and Karuzi are scheduled to assess UNICEF-supported nutrition programming, emphasizing integrated approaches with social protection, food systems efforts, and community-based interventions. These visits will provide valuable insights for advising on strategic enhancements and synergies based on observations and interactions with partners, government representatives, and communities.

Víctor Aguayo's visit underscores UNICEF's commitment to supporting Burundi's fight against stunting and other forms of malnutrition and ensuring every child’s right to nutrition and development is fulfilled. It marks a pivotal step in reinforcing partnerships and mobilizing resources to significantly impact children's lives across the nation.
