Education as the key to the future

At the Temporary Reception Center Ušivak, where destinies intertwine and hopes bloom, a new chapter is opening for children on the move. These children, who have faced tremendous challenges, are now being given the opportunity to integrate into the education system and shape their future.

In September this year, with enthusiasm and joy, the inclusion of children on the move in educational activities continued. This initiative is not just about education, it is a bridge to new opportunities, friendships, and a sense of belonging. Classrooms become safe spaces where knowledge is gained, and self-confidence is strengthened.

"I like the backpack and school supplies I got, but most of all, I love my teacher. She is always smiling and kind." "I am happy that I can go to school again. I am not afraid to go to a new school because our teachers from the camp are with us all the time." "I like that we are learning new things and making new friends," are just some of the statements from the children who have started school.

These new experiences not only help them adapt but also empower them for future challenges. Every lesson in school is not just an opportunity for learning but also a chance for growth.

At the Temporary Reception Center Ušivak, education becomes more than just traditional learning, it is a pathway to hope. Every new book, every new friend, and every new skill helps children build a better version of themselves. "We learn and grow together, that’s what makes me happiest," says a girl with a smile.

We remain dedicated to supporting these brave little ones. As children on the move continue their educational journey, they remind us of the responsibility to ensure that every child has the right and opportunity to realize their dreams.

UNICEF BiH, with its partners and the support of the European Union, provides informal education services in reception centers in BiH and supports educational authorities in including children on the move in formal education through preparatory programs and vocational training.
