National Strategy and Framework of Action on the Elimination of GBV
2024 - 2028
Highlights
Two in five women in Bhutan experience intimate partner violence and 6.9 per cent report childhood sexual abuse. More than half of women and girls believe violence against women is justified, reflecting deep-rooted social and cultural norms that perpetuate gender-based violence.
These statistics show why addressing gender-based violence (GBV) and harmful practices remains a priority in Bhutan. The National Strategy and Framework of Action on the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence released today provides a comprehensive roadmap for coordinated and sustained actions to combat GBV and ensure a violence-free Bhutan where women and girls live a life free from all forms of violence.
The Strategy is organized around four interconnected pillars – Response, Prevention, Enabling Environment and, Data and Evidence.
