UNICEF Belize is pleased to welcome Sajid Ali as the new Acting Representative, joining the Country Office in mid‑February 2026. A seasoned leader with a distinguished career spanning more than 26 years, Sajid brings a dynamic blend of vision, compassion, and deep experience in organizational culture, people management, and strategic leadership.

Sajid’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for UNICEF Belize as we continue advancing our mission for every child, especially the most vulnerable, across the country. His arrival comes at a pivotal moment, as the Country Office strengthens its advocacy, partnerships, and programmatic response to emerging challenges facing children and families in Belize.

A Leader Committed to People, Culture, and Impact

Before joining UNICEF Belize, Sajid served as UNICEF’s Principal Adviser for Organizational Culture and Wellbeing, where he oversaw global teams dedicated to organizational culture, staff wellbeing, and safeguarding. His work in this role has been defined by a strong commitment to creating supportive, inclusive, and high-performing environments where people can thrive. Prior to that, he served as Deputy Director of Human Resources, contributing to strategic HR reforms and talent development across UNICEF.

Across his career, Sajid has built a reputation as a people‑centered leader skilled in change management, networking, and partnerships and has led multicultural, multidisciplinary teams in both field and headquarters settings. His professional journey has been as diverse as it is inspiring, beginning as a journalist and evolving into leadership roles at local, regional, and international levels. He holds a Law degree and a Master of Science in Human Resources Management, building his leadership in strong analytical and human‑centered foundations.

Strengthening UNICEF’s Vision for Every Child in Belize

Sajid held his first courtesy meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Francis Fonseca, marking a renewed commitment to strengthening the longstanding partnership between UNICEF and the Government of Belize.

As Acting Representative, Sajid will guide the Country Office in deepening partnerships with government, civil society, and communities; strengthening program delivery; and fostering an internal culture where UNICEF staff feel valued, supported, and empowered.

His extensive global experience, paired with a passion for advancing child rights, positions him to drive forward UNICEF Belize’s priorities in education, child protection, health, and social inclusion ensuring every child has the opportunity to grow, learn, and thrive.
