The Ministry of Health & Wellness, in collaboration with key health partners, convened the Second Prematurity Conference yesterday in Belize City. This important forum brought together doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to discuss the state of prematurity in Belize and explore strategies for improving outcomes for mothers, preterm babies, and the broader health system.

Prematurity remains a leading cause of newborn mortality worldwide, and every child has the right to survive and thrive. UNICEF emphasizes that access to quality healthcare is fundamental to this right. By strengthening collaboration and sharing best practices, Belize is taking steps to ensure that preterm babies receive the care they need for a healthy start in life.

The conference theme, “Give preterm babies a strong start for a brighter future,” calls for collective action to safeguard the health and well-being of our youngest and most vulnerable citizens. Together, we can build a future where every child not only survives but thrives.
