Belize Unveils the Most Complete Picture of Childhood in 10 Years

Belize, 20 November 2025 - On World Children’s Day, UNICEF Belize joins the global community in celebrating “My Day, My Rights,” a reminder that children are not only the future — they are the present. Their voices, decisions, and ideas must shape the Belize we are building today.

This year’s World Children’s Day carries special significance. Together with national partners, UNICEF Belize will unveil the results of the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS7) — providing the most complete picture of childhood in Belize in 10 years.

This comprehensive dataset captures the realities of children and families across the country: how they live, learn, grow, and are protected. It is more than statistics — it is a roadmap that shows where Belize has advanced, where inequities persist, and where investment is urgently needed to ensure every child survives, thrives, and reaches their full potential.

Grounded in Belize’s commitments under the Convention on the Rights of the Child, MICS7 will guide evidence-based decision-making and strengthen national policies that place children at the center of development.

Children Leading the National Conversation

Across Belize, UNICEF is proud to support initiatives that elevate the voices and leadership of children and young people. This year’s World Children’s Day highlights include:

• The 5th National Children’s Parliament, where child parliamentarians debated a draft bill they identified as essential to their wellbeing — granting adolescents aged 14+ independent access to preventive health service.
• The appointment of two new UNICEF Youth Advocates, who will co-create advocacy efforts and lead campaigns that champion children’s rights across the country.

• Child Reporters partnering with local media outlets to ensure children’s perspectives are heard in national conversations and coverage.

Listening to children is not optional — it is essential to building a stronger Belize. Their hopes, concerns, and ideas must guide the choices we make today.
