You have arrived with children from Ukraine. What help can you get from UNICEF?

As the crisis escalates in Ukraine, the humanitarian situation for children in the country continues deteriorating. About two-thirds of the children are currently displaced either within Ukraine or to neighboring countries. Children continue to be killed, injured and deeply traumatized as a result of the horrendous violence taking place around them. They are frightened, in a state of shock and desperate for security, stability and protection.
Since 24 February until 13 September 2022, more than 54 thousand citizens of Ukraine have arrived in Belarus (according to the State Border Committee). UNICEF in Belarus continues to support people affected by the conflict in Ukraine.

In addition, UNICEF, together with the Belarusian Red Cross, established information points for refugees coming from Ukraine to Brest region. At the Brest-Terespol Belarusian-Polish border crossing, as well as inside the Brest bus station, you can find stands with information resources on the most important contacts of assistance in the Republic of Belarus, as well as resources useful for families with children. Volunteers at those information stands will tell you where to go for help and will provide you with hygiene kits for families with children.
Please note that on 14 September 2022, the President of Belarus signed the Decree No. 360. Amendments were made to the Decree No. 420 dated 30 August 2014 “On the stay of citizens of Ukraine in the Republic of Belarus”. Now it applies to all refugees from Ukraine (not only to those from Lugansk and Donetsk regions) and expands their rights to education, health care, social protection and employment in the country. The new version of the decree also regulates access to benefits and exempts from payment of various taxes and fees associated with registration in the country.
How to get targeted financial assistance for children’s education?
Together with partners, we distribute gift certificates (vouchers) to families to help prepare for the school year. Gift certificates will allow you to buy in specialized stores school supplies, clothes and other things needed for schooling. We distribute vouchers through our partners - Red Cross. To get help, please contact any of the Red Cross offices near you.
How to get humanitarian aid?
We are transferring humanitarian aid to affected families through our partners. 889 children and 424 adults have already received hygiene kits, clothes, educational materials, toys, etc. If you need help, please contact any of the Red Cross offices near you.
How to get psychological help?
Together with partners, we opened "safe space" rooms for children. They work on the premises of selected socio-pedagogical centers (SPC) and territorial centers of Red Cross. Children and their parents can receive psychological and psychosocial assistance in those centres.
Psychologists can conduct individual or group sessions with children, including the drawing sessions. In addition, they provide advice to parents and caregivers on dealing with children’s stress and supporting a child in crisis situations.
