Sustainable Development Goals #foreverychild
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development including its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets was adopted on 25 September 2015. Joint efforts and shared responsibility of governments, private sector, civil society and all people on the Earth, including children and adolescents are the key factor for achieving Global Goals.
Each of the Goals contains a number of indicators that must be achieved within 15 years. Of the 232 unique SDG indicators, 50 are directly related to children. UNICEF is globally responsible for 17 indicators (7 of them are shared responsibility with other organizations). For another 5 indicators, UNICEF is acknowledged as a responsible institution
In 2018, UNICEF in Belarus launched the global report "Progress for every child in the SDG era", providing a first-ever comprehensive assessment of progress in achieving the SDGs in context of children and adolescents and making its forecast until 2030.
In January 2019, Belarus brought in national platform that provides statistical reports on SDGs. UNICEF in Belarus supported its development.
The Platform stores data on 255 indicators — statistical indicators on life expectancy, birth rate / mortality, wages, use of natural resources and many others.
In April 2019, UNICEF together with the Economic Research Institute of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Belarus held a round table on the topic “Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals for Children and Adolescents”. There partners presented a basic level analysis of important SDG indicators, as well as progress in reaching global goals.
Agenda 2030: No one left behind
The Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 includes 17 goals, 169 targets and 232 unique indicators. The imperative of the agenda 2030 “No one left behind” requires monitoring disaggregated indicators of the Sustainable Development Goals by sex, age, income, nationality, migration status, disability, geographic location.
The SDGs assume that children and adolescents are the driving force for development, provided they have skills and capabilities necessary to realize their potential. Thus, improving the situation of children and adolescents will act as an accelerator for achieving the SDGs.
The main objective of the UNICEF country program is to promote the realization of the rights of children and commitment to the key principle "to guard and ensure best interests of children and adolescents". The main priorities are aimed at the most vulnerable categories of children, such as children and adolescents with disabilities, children without parental care, minors in conflict and contact with the law, children, adolescents and women who have experienced violence.
The new UNICEF Strategic plan for 2018–2021 includes most of the SDG indicators affecting children and adolescents.
