“Human activity has pushed our planet to the brink of a climate catastrophe, affecting our lives today in every way imaginable and putting the future of children at risk. World leaders need to act now, and I believe if children and youth come together to raise their voices, we can make a difference.”
Farzana Faruk Jhumu
Driven to action by the severe impact of climate change on Bangladesh, climate activist Farzana Faruk Jhumu stepped up to advocate for climate action with Fridays For Future (FFF) Bangladesh. Playing active roles in FFF, UN Women Feminist Action Coalition for Climate Justice and 350.org, Jhumu has since established herself as a strong voice for a better future on a healthy planet, campaigning for phasing out of fossil fuel. With UNICEF, she worked in the launching of the Children's Climate Risk Index in 2021 to highlight the climate crisis as a child rights crisis. Designated a UNICEF Youth Advocate for Bangladesh in 2022, Jhumu embodies the importance of youth participation in climate decisions. She attended the UN Climate Change Conference in 2021 (COP26) and the 2022 Stockholm+50 Pre-Summit.
