Adolescent and youth peacebuilders manual for Mindanao, Philippines
A manual of approaches and activities for use by educators, programme managers, and others in Mindanao, Philippines working with adolescent and youth ages 14-24 in formal settings and nonformal programmes and contexts
Highlights
To cope with the challenges they encounter and build on the opportunities they face, adolescents and youth in Mindanao need to learn competencies – related areas of knowledge, attitudes and skills – that they can use to manage conflict and build peace at all levels of their lives. UNICEF Philippines developed this manual to support Mindanao adolescents and youth in becoming peacebuilders by learning and using these competencies.
The manual offers guidance and resources for use by programme coordinators and facilitators to catalyze co-curricular and non-formal peacebuilding education programmes for adolescents and youth ages 14-24, centering on a curriculum of 27 learning activities organized into three modules, which are drawn and adapted from the Adolescent Kit. The manual's introductory background section on adolescents' and youth's perspectives and experiences on conflict and peace also draws from a participatory consultation conducted with adolescents and youth in Mindanao that utilized activities and approaches which are also outlined in the Adolescent Kit's guidance for programme coordinators on participatory situation analysis and planning with and for young people.
