About

As part of the Building Resilience in the Sahel (BRS) Programme, UNICEF is supporting the SAFIA approach (“Knowing, Learning and Doing to be Independent during my Adolescence”) to strengthen the resilience of adolescent girls to societal and environmental risks. This case study helps to inform Outcome 3 of the BRS Programme, which aims to ensure that “Adolescent girls and boys have increased opportunities to exercise collective and individual capacities to cope with shocks and participate meaningfully in decisions affecting their lives”. The study focuses primarily on improving the ability of adolescent girls in rural areas to cope with societal and environmental challenges.
