As the modern pace in Da Nang City becomes more and more hectic, the eating habits of residents and especially the young have changed significantly. Between the convenience of fast food and the nutritional benefits of clean food, the food choices are strongly affecting our health and longevity. Worryingly, the poor health of young people, an increasingly common phenomenon, is largely due to unhealthy diets and lifestyles.

Nutritional health is essential for children and adolescents because it is a critical development period when the body grows rapidly and requires much nutrition. Without adequate nutrition, children’s and adolescents’ growth and development will be impacted, leading to health and physical problems. In addition, consuming a nutritious diet also helps children and adolescents develop intelligence and focusing on learning ability.

In addition, having a well-balanced diet also helps children and adolescents reduce their risk of diseases such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular and some cancers.

Fast food is unhealthy and often produced and processed to be easily preserved for a long time. However, consuming too much fast food can cause several health and nutritional problems: it may contain many preservatives and synthetic chemical colours, which can have negative effects on the health of children and adolescents; as well as sugar and salt, which increases the risk of cardiovascular disease.

To ensure happy and healthy childhoods that translate into healthy and productive adulthood, there is a critical need to raise awareness, encourage clean food choices, ensure adequate nutrition, adopt healthy eating habits, exercise and regularly monitor health. Especially for Da Nang’s youth, there is a need to focus on improving health and nutrition at schools by limiting fast food and focusing on providing clean, nutritious meals. Adding more fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to the menu will ensure that students receive balanced meals. Photo reports on this issue can also partly promote positive awareness of eating habits of Da Nang people, especially teenagers.
