To turn a ‘green thought’ into a ‘green action’ for a safer, cleaner, and greener Viet Nam for every child!
This competition is organized by the Viet Nam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority (MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT), in collaboration with the Department of Educational Facilities (MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING) and UNICEF Viet Nam with support from the Government of Japan. Building on the great success of previous competitions – such as the '1-Minute Green Video Challenge for a Greener and Cleaner Viet Nam in 2020, the 1-Minute Green' – Early action with children in 2022 and the 'Flying Kite' Flashmob Dance Competition in 2023 – 2024’s One Day as a Child Reporter Covering Natural Disaster Prevention and Control is set to spark students’ imagination. It offers participants an opportunity to learn, raise awareness, and develop safety skills in natural disaster preparedness and response. At the same time, students can express themselves, share their perspectives, and advocate for action through innovative ideas and solutions to mitigate the impacts of natural disasters in their lives and adapt to climate change.
TIMELINE OF THE COMPETITION
- September 1, 2024: The competition’s launch.
- September 16 to October 13, 2024 (four weeks): Competition opens for video submissions, via the Facebook group.
- The competition’s results will be announced within one month after the submission period ends.
SCOPE AND PARTICIPANTS
- Scope: The competition is open to all secondary schools nationwide.
- Participants: Secondary school students aged 11-15 years. Participants may enter the competition individually or as a group. Students from remote areas, ethnic minorities, those in difficult circumstances, and students with disabilities are encouraged to participate.
COMPETITION SUBMISSION’S CONTENT AND FORMAT
- Content of the Submission: Participants should create a video news report or reportage that covers one of the following topics:
- Information, knowledge, and skills about natural disaster prevention and climate change adaptation from children’s perspectives to increase understanding, awareness, responsibility, and action among peers, families, and communities regarding the importance of disaster prevention.
- Reflect on the impacts of natural disasters and climate change on the daily lives of the participant’s community, including recommendations and guidance on response measures and disaster prevention skills for children and their community.
- Suggest solutions to raise community awareness, call for action to reduce natural disaster damage or other creative ideas to realize natural disaster prevention and climate change adaptation.
- Mandatory Requirement: Participants (child reporters) must directly present (with video or audio recording) for at least 20 seconds within the submission video.
- Encouraged Features: Creative and relevant content that accurately reflects local natural disaster realities, confident and engaging delivery of messages, knowledge, and skills on natural disaster prevention and control, well-produced video with high-quality visuals, graphics and sound. Videos with English subtitles are encouraged, but not required. - Format of the Submission:
- Duration: The video should be between one to two minutes long.
- Technical Specifications: Format .mp4; Aspect Ratio: Preferably 16:9 (landscape), 9:16 (portrait) or 4:3 is also acceptable; Resolution: Full HD 1080p or higher is recommended (minimum 1280 x 720 pixels).
- The submission video should be uploaded to the Facebook group Thử thách làm phim “1 phút xanh” (‘1-minute green’ video challenge)
GUIDELINES FOR PARTICIPANTS
- Step 1: Research natural disaster prevention and control knowledge and develop a video script.
Participants or groups should research information and knowledge about natural disaster prevention and control from official sources such as: the Media Resources section on the website of the Viet Nam Dyke and Disaster Management Authority, the "Thông tin Phòng, chống thiên tai" Facebook page, the "Thông tin Phòng, chống thiên tai" YouTube channel; reputable national and local press, radio, and television agencies, and other official sources.
Participants or groups should creatively develop ideas and script a news report/feature on natural disaster prevention and control, incorporating information, knowledge, skills, or messages about natural disaster prevention and control and climate change adaptation.
- Step 2: Present the news report/feature, record and edit the final video.
Participants or groups can create their submission video in their own unique way using any digital device (such as smartphones, tablets, cameras).
Record, edit, finalize, and add graphic effects to create a complete video that meets the required duration.
- Step 3: Upload the submission video.
Upload the submission video to the Facebook group Thử thách làm phim '1 phút xanh' (‘1-minute green’ video challenge). (Submission content should clearly include: Full name of the individual/group, school name and class, address and phone number, title of the submission and any other relevant information).
- Step 4: Complete the submission by filling out the registration information at the provided link.
- Step 5: After the video is successfully uploaded and validated, participants or groups should promote their video by encouraging likes, comments, and shares.
TOTAL PRIZE VALUE: VND250 MILLION
- Weekly Gift Set:
Each week, the organizers will select the three best valid videos from the Facebook group “1-Minute Green Video Challenge” based on interaction scores (reactions, comments, shares, with shares counted as double).
Note: The weekly gift set is for entries submitted during that week. At the end of each week, entries that have been awarded weekly gift sets will continue to be eligible for overall competition voting and scoring, but will not be eligible for subsequent weekly prizes.
The total prize value for the four-week interaction awards includes:
- 04 first prizes: 1 prize per week worth VND1 million each.
- 08 second prizes: 2 prizes per week worth VND500,000 each.
(Each gift set will include a certificate and a souvenir from the organizers after the competition concludes)
- Gift set for the overall competition
At the end of the competition, the judges will decide and announce the prizes based on the total scores of the main criteria such as: script, content quality and creativity, reporters’ presentation quality, video recording and editing quality in terms of image, colour, sound, graphics and interactions (including the number of reactions, comments, shares).
The gift set for the overall competition winners as follows:
- 03 First Prizes: each worth VND 3 million
- 03 Second Prizes: each worth VND 2 million
- 04 Third Prizes: each worth VND 1 million
- 40 Consolation Prizes: each worth VND 500,000
(Each gift set will include a certificate and a souvenir from the organizers.)
- 10 Special Prizes: Each worth VND 1 million, including a certificate and a souvenir from the organizers, are as follows:
+ 02 “Impressive Reportage” Prizes: Awarded to two entries with notable outdoor shooting investment and effective use of sound, image, and graphic effects.
+ 02 “Impressive Imagery” Prizes: Awarded to two entries with significant investment in costumes, settings, and imagery that leave a strong emotional impact.
+ 02 “Inspiring Work” Prizes: Awarded to two entries that present an impressive theme, with inspiring, creative, and engaging content/script.
+ 02 “Promising Reporter” Prizes: Awarded to two entries where the participant is judged to have displayed confident presentation, compelling voice, and engaging delivery.
+ 02 “Most Creative Message” Prizes: Awarded to two entries that effectively convey a creative and impactful message about disaster prevention.
- Souvenir Gifts: Awarded to 72 entries that receive Weekly Prizes, Overall Prizes, and 400 videos that reach the final round (excluding those that have already won a prize). Each gift set includes one souvenir and one certificate from the organizers.
OTHER REGULATIONS:
- The submission videos must be created entirely by the individuals/groups themselves, including scripting, presenting, recording, filming, editing, and submitting. They must ensure copyright compliance and not replicate other submitted works.
- The video entries must clearly cite the sources of information and data used in the video. Videos in which statistical data or other materials are used are required to have citations/annotations of the information source.
- The video entries must be original and not have been previously submitted or won awards in any other competitions. The content of the video entries must not violate Vietnamese law.
- Participants need to obtain permission from their parents (or guardians) to enter the competition. The organizing committee may request participants to provide parental consent when necessary.
- Recommendation: During the video creation process, participants should proactively avoid risks and take precautions against possible accidents. Specifically, videos should not be filmed at locations currently experiencing or at risk of natural disasters that could endanger participants or others. To ensure safety, the organizers encourage participants to seek guidance and supervision from adults (parents or teachers) during video recording activities. The organizers will not be responsible for any risks that may occur to participants during the content creation process.
- The organizers have the right to use all submitted videos for non-commercial communication activities.
