About

The Report “Disparities and Multidimensional Child Poverty among Ethnic Minority Populations in Viet Nam: Evidence from the 2024 Survey on the Socio-Economic Situation of 53 Ethnic Minorities” provides new evidence on the development challenges and multidimensional poverty experienced by children across Viet Nam’s 53 ethnic minority groups. The report highlights substantial disparities between ethnic minority children and the Kinh majority, as well as important differences among ethnic minority groups themselves, underscoring the need for more targeted and equitable policies.

The analysis shows that ethnic minority children continue to face significantly higher levels of deprivation across education, health, water, sanitation, housing, and information access. Children from very small ethnic groups, remote areas, and households facing multiple disadvantages experience the highest risks of multidimensional poverty and exclusion.

Using a rights-based and multidimensional approach, the report estimates that nearly one in three ethnic minority children experiences multidimensional poverty, with the most severe deprivations observed in information and digital access, sanitation, and health. The findings underscore the critical role of infrastructure, access to quality services, and investments in human capital, while demonstrating how factors such as women's education, household conditions, and social inclusion can significantly reduce children's vulnerability to poverty and deprivation. It calls for data-driven, multisectoral actions that address the diverse needs of ethnic minority children and accelerate progress towards leaving no child behind.
