UN Committee on the Rights of the Child Children's Rights in Digital Environments

General Comment No.25

Highlights

When the Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted by the United Nations
General Assembly on November 20, 1989, the internet was just beginning to be
developed in the world and children had not yet been introduced to the digital world.
The Committee on the Rights of the Child, composed of experts to assess how the
Convention is being implemented in countries, has prepared this text to ensure that children are well, safe, free, healthy, and able to be themselves in the virtual
world. The document explains to states and adults what needs to be done to protect
children's rights under the title of "General Comment 25".
