UNICEF celebrated its 75th anniversary with a photography exhibition on “Climate Change and Children”. The opening of the exhibition, hosted by UNICEF Turkey Representative Regina De Dominicis at Ankara Cer Modern Art Gallery, was attended by nearly 200 participants and Deputy Minister of National Education Petek Aşkar, as well as government representatives, civil society members, foreign mission representatives, donors, United Nations and UNICEF staff, members of the media, children and youth.
Famous artist and UNICEF supporter Hadise also took part in the opening of the exhibition.
While UNICEF organizes various events for its 75th anniversary in the 190 countries it operates, UNICEF Turkey Representative Regina De Dominicis, in her speech on this meaningful anniversary in Turkey said: “ Today is a very special day for us as we celebrate UNICEF’s 75th anniversary.
Seventy-five years ago, UNICEF has started its operation at a time of crisis, when the world was still recovering from the World War II. With our partners and our donors, we have made great strides toward helping children realize their right to health, education and protection.
In the last two years we are living another huge crises that has been threatening the progress made so far. A staggering 100 million more children have been plunged into poverty. An estimated 1 billion children – nearly half of the world’s children – live in countries that are at an ‘extremely high-risk’ from the impacts of climate change. We see widespread social and economic challenges and rising inequalities. These challenges impact everyone, but they hit the most vulnerable children the hardest.
So today let’s celebrate the mission of UNICEF with renewed collective commitment and determination for urgent action."
