Independent child rights monitoring

The challenge

There has been significant progress in advancing child rights in Türkiye, but there is still room for improvement in preventing and monitoring violations.

The solution

UNICEF is working with the Ombudsperson Institution and National Human Rights and Equality Institution to increase their capacity in dealing with children who are seeking redress, as well as encouraging children to report violations. UNICEF is also partnering with the Turkish parliament and various civil society partnerships in monitoring the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

UNICEF, which facilitates cooperation among all these actors, is also:

• collaborating with the parliamentary subcommittee on the Rights of the Child to share experiences, generate knowledge and develop child-friendly legislation
• increasing the outreach and technical capacity of the Ombudsperson’s Institution and National Human Rights and Equality Institution
• increasing the capacity of civil society to monitor the implementation of the Convention of the Rights of the Child, to lobby key national and local stakeholders for improved policy and practices.
