The challenge
Young people make up a quarter of the 82 million Turkish population, with 20.4 million aged 10–24 and 1.25 million aged 15–17. More than 50 per cent of its 4 million refugees are aged 10–24.
Türkiye has a long legacy of supporting the participation of young people, but many remain with limited engagement opportunities and are not empowered with necessary skills to support their transitions as active members of the community and to participate in decision-making related to their own personal, social and economic empowerment.
UNICEF and the Government of Türkiye have recognized that more needs to be done to invest in adolescents especially their inclusion and promotion of their participation and civic engagement.

The solution
The UNICEF Türkiye Country Office together with government and partners, prioritizes programming which aims to support development of systems that enable more adolescents and young people (including refugees) to access personal development, participation and civic engagement opportunities in out-of-school settings.
