Digital transformation is a UNICEF global accelerator for results, harnessing data, technology and innovation to strengthen systems, improve decision-making and expand access to quality services for children at scale. UNICEF Timor-Leste contributes to Accelerator 3 (Innovation and Digital Transformation) of the Strategic Plan 2026–2029 by strengthening digital systems, data ecosystems, and interoperability to support more efficient, integrated and scalable services for children.

UNICEF works with the Government of TL to strengthen digital systems, data ecosystems, and interoperability to support more efficient, integrated, and scalable services for children in Timor-Leste. These initiatives total over US$3 million and span multiple technical sectors.

We have invested in 18 digital initiatives across health, education, nutrition, child protection, WASH, and social policy to strengthen national systems for children. Key achievements include deploying over 850 tablets to frontline workers, training 259 health workers in digital systems, equipping 60 schools with ICT, and making Timor-Leste the first country in the world to integrate climate markers into its child protection case management system; thereby building sustainable digital infrastructure for data-driven service delivery.
