Highlights
The scientific consensus is clear: breastfeeding protects the health of both children and mothers, short- and long-term. Among other benefits, breastfeeding reduces the prevalence of obesity, diabetes, and cancer. If more babies were breastfed, estimates show that these health benefits alone could save the Europe and Central Asia region billions of dollars each year – as well as thousands of lives.
