Dushanbe, Tajikistan, 06.05.2025. In a significant step toward improving neonatal healthcare in Tajikistan, UNICEF Tajikistan has handed over 227 Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machines and 300 oxygen concentrators, along with essential accessories and consumables, to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan.

This vital donation is aimed at strengthening the country’s capacity to provide effective respiratory support to newborns and other patients in need of oxygen therapy. The medical equipment will be distributed across 73 healthcare facilities providing neonatal care in both urban and rural areas of Tajikistan. To maximize the impact and ensure sustainability, the distribution will be complemented by comprehensive training for healthcare providers. This training will focus on the correct use and maintenance of the CPAP devices and oxygen concentrators, as well as clinical protocols for managing respiratory distress in newborns.

At the official handover ceremony, Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of Population Shodikhon Jamshed expressed his appreciation for UNICEF’s continued support, noting that the donation represents a significant contribution toward reducing neonatal mortality and improving the quality of care in healthcare facilities across the country.

"Access to safe and effective respiratory care is critical for saving lives. Through this partnership, we are working together to ensure that every mother and every child—regardless of where they live—has access to quality healthcare services." Arthur van Diesen, UNICEF Representative in Tajikistan.

This initiative aligns with ongoing national efforts to improve maternal and child health outcomes and reduce preventable deaths. The procurement was funded by the UNICEF Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator Supplies Financing Facility (ACT-A SFF), with a total investment of USD 1,822,495.45.
