Guidelines for health promotion, disease prevention and management from the newborn period to adolescence
Dushanbe, 25 November 2025 – The Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan, together with the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF Tajikistan, held an official launch event for the “Pocket book of primary health care for children and adolescents: Guidelines for health promotion, disease prevention and management from the newborn period to adolescence.” The event gathered government partners, international organizations, educators, and health professionals to strengthen health services for children and adolescents across the country.
The launch highlighted the importance of the newly adapted Pocket Guide, which supports primary health care providers with updated, evidence-based recommendations and guidance on how to promote health, prevent illness, and manage common conditions affecting children and adolescents.
"The launch of the Pocket Book marks a milestone for Tajikistan in improving child and adolescent health services at the community level. UNICEF stands ready for continued collaboration with the ministry and development partners on strengthening maternal, newborn, child and adolescents’ health programs in Tajikistan." Eri Dwivedi, UNICEF Deputy Representative for Programmes in Tajikistan.
WHO and UNICEF supported the adaptation of the original WHO Pocket Book of primary health care for children and adolescents for Tajikistan. The Tajik Pocket Book launched today is a unique adaptation that reflects Tajikistan’s language, culture and health system.
"This Pocket Book will be invaluable to further strengthen primary health care for children and adolescents in our country. With WHO and UNICEF’s support, we have tailored practical guidelines to Tajikistan’s unique needs, helping health workers deliver quality, evidence-based care even in the most remote regions." Dr. Zulfiya Abdumasamadzoda, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population.
With the support of the Government of Tajikistan and partners, the Tajik Pocket book of primary health care for children and adolescents will be distributed nationwide in both print and digital formats. The digital version, accessible on smartphones and tablets, allows health workers to have vital, evidence-based guidance at their fingertips wherever they work.
Participants at the launch also emphasized the importance of integrating the Pocket Guide into medical education at all levels, including pre-service and postgraduate programs as well as continuous professional development for health workers. With continued training and support, the guide will help strengthen primary health care services across the country and better equip health workers to meet the needs of children and adolescents.
