For the first time in ten years, immunization activities have started in areas of South Jebel Marra. The National Polio Campaign is targeting 8.6 million children around Sudan. In the areas of South Jebel Marra including Gorlangbang, the polio campaign is targeting approximately 15,000 children under the age of five with polio vaccines.
Due to conflict in the area, humanitarians were previously unable to reach Gorlangbang and children did not have access to critical health care.
UNICEF, in collaboration with South Darfur’s State Ministry of Health, provided training to over 30 health workers from the area on the vaccinations and precautionary COVID19 measures.
