Jerusalem, 10 July 2025 – The Government of Brazil has donated 100,000 doses of oral polio vaccine to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, in a timely gesture of solidarity aimed at supporting child health and disease prevention in the State of Palestine. The donation, facilitated with logistical support from UNICEF, arrived safely and has been transferred to the Ministry’s vaccine warehouse in Nablus for use in the West Bank.

The vaccines were shipped from São Paulo, Brazil to the Palestinian Ministry of Health with the support of UNICEF and partners. The shipment complied with all safety and quality standards, including WHO-compliant packaging and temperature control measures between 2°C and 8°C.

This contribution will bolster ongoing polio vaccination school campaigns across the West Bank as a part of the National strategy of the Palestinian Ministry of Health. The vaccines are expected to benefit over 85,000 school age children.

Expressing gratitude to Brazil and UNICEF, His Excellency the Palestinian Minister of Health, Dr. Maged Abu Ramadan said: “Brazil's generous donation of 100,000 doses of polio vaccine represents a noble stance that embodies the depth of human solidarity and international support for the right of Palestinian children to prevention and health care, stressing the importance of continuing and strengthening efforts to ensure that vaccines reach every child, wherever they are.”

Reaffirming Brazil’s commitment to support the Palestinian Ministry of Health and the children of Palestine, His Excellency Mr. João Marcelo Soares, the Ambassador of Brazil said: “This donation is a symbol of Brazil’s commitment to the health of the Palestinian population and Brazil’s political support of the Palestinian cause”.

“UNICEF warmly welcomes Brazil’s generous contribution and is proud to support the Ministry of Health in delivering life-saving vaccines to Palestinian children,” said Ms. Jean Gough-UNICEF Representative to the State of Palestine”. “Immunization is one of the most effective investments to protect children’s health, and this support comes at a time of urgent need.” She added.

In the face of growing challenges in access to essential health services, this donation reflects the importance of global partnerships in sustaining public health and upholding every child’s right to a healthy life.

UNICEF remains committed to working with the Ministry of Health and international partners to ensure that every child, regardless of location, receives essential vaccines and care.
