Highlights

We present this external annual report on the work of UNICEF Sierra Leone in 2024, which reflects the enduring commitment of the country’s people and the resilience of its children. It is a review of not only UNICEF’s efforts, but also of Sierra Leone’s ongoing determination to build a more just, inclusive, and hopeful future for every child.

The past year has brought both progress and persistent challenges. Together with our partners, we have continued to expand access to education for the most marginalized, supported essential health and nutrition services, and strengthened child protection systems. We have seen continued reductions in maternal and child mortality, a growing reach of social protection for vulnerable families, and improved access to safe water and sanitation across communities. These achievements reflect what is possible through collective effort and national ownership, even in the face of structural obstacles.

We know that the road to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals remains long, and that many children in Sierra Leone are still being left behind. Yet we remain unwavering in our resolve to change this reality. UNICEF’s strategic vision in Sierra Leone is grounded in the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to survive, grow, and reach their full potential. Through an integrated approach—from early health and nutrition to quality learning and protection—we are investing in the foundations of lifelong well-being.

In partnership with the Government of Sierra Leone, civil society, donor governments, UN agencies, and local communities, we are strengthening national systems and amplifying local leadership to drive lasting change. The work reflected in this report is not only about what we achieved in 2024—it is a call to action for what we can accomplish together in the years ahead. With continued support, we can ensure that no child is left behind.
