Volunteering and networking for greater youth development

Online volunteering platform – volonterinamrezi.rs was launched under the working plan of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and it strives to advocate and jointly contribute to easier networking, information and volunteer involvement of young people in Serbia.
In response to the crisis caused by the corona virus pandemic, UNICEF and Young Researchers of Serbia launched an online volunteering initiative that has gathered more than 750 young volunteers from April 2020 until today. They have conducted over 800 volunteer activities such as creating and sharing content through information campaign, tutorials and sharing skills on time management, inclusion, family relationships, translating educational materials, networking through the U-Report platform and providing support to peers to deal with crisis situations and pandemic conditions.
As a necessary and important next step was launching of the national volunteer platform volonterinamrezi.rs, which enables:
- easier connection of volunteering organizers and volunteers and additional encouragement for expanding the volunteer community at the national level
- more efficient management of volunteers and organization of volunteer tasks
- additional opportunities for involvement, both live and online, ensuring wider access and reducing barriers to youth activism
- overall monitoring of volunteer contribution
- safe and secure space, data processing and harmonized code of conduct
- enhanced communication and exchange of information
- greater visibility of positive examples of youth activism for young people, as well as achievements
- enhanced recognition of volunteer work.
Creating and promoting opportunities for young people to volunteer in a meaningful, accessible and valued way enhances their participation in society, the development of skills for greater employability and quality of life, and further empowers them. Such a platform enables further work and efforts for a standardized approach and evaluation of volunteer hours. It brings together organizations, institutions, sports federations, local governments, and provides the opportunity to publish calls and initiatives for young people across the country.
This way, we will unite separate initiatives through broader cooperation in the planning and implementation of programs, as well as in monitoring the volunteer impact, improving the framework and recognizing this approach among young people, in the work of organizations and in society.
