Belgrade, 27 June 2025 – In an effort to bridge the digital divide and enhance children's safety online, UNICEF and Yettel have launched a series of three brochures under the joint title "Digital Compass for Parents." These brochures are designed to provide parents and teachers with practical advice and knowledge to help them engage in open, informed, and supportive conversations with children about their digital experiences. The aim is to empower adults not to stay on the sidelines but to be active and present companions in children’s digital upbringing.

The guides are part of a broader initiative to equip adults with practical tools and relevant information to help them follow, understand, and shape children’s digital experiences while respecting their needs, rights, and safety.

The launch of the brochures was accompanied by a webinar as part of UNICEF’s Parenting School, with the participation of Prof. Dr. Dobrinka Kuzmanović, who contributed to the development of the brochures, Nataša Đurić Lazović, a teacher at the Sixth Belgrade Gymnasium, Marija Vujanić, Director of Communications and Sustainability at Yettel, and artist Konstrakta, who spoke from her personal perspective as a parent.

Prof. Dr. Dobrinka Kuzmanović stated: "Digital literacy doesn’t begin or end with technology – it begins at home. Parents and teachers must be empowered to have informed, empathetic, and age-appropriate conversations with children. The ‘Digital Compass’ is our contribution to that dialogue.”

Digital transformation brings many opportunities but also challenges, which is why the role of parents and teachers is crucial in developing healthy digital habits in children.

Marija Vujanić, Director of Communications and Sustainability at Yettel, added: "We believe that a responsible approach to technology starts with education. Together with UNICEF, we want to provide parents with concrete tools to follow the development of their children’s skills, while also helping them understand both the risks and opportunities of the digital world.”

That is why it is essential to include the voices of parents from different walks of life. Experiences may vary, but the challenges are often similar.

Artist Konstrakta shared:
"Children today are growing up in a world very different from the one we knew. It’s not important for us, as parents, to know everything about technology. What matters is that we are present, open, and ready to learn together with our children. That’s why I believe this ‘Compass’ is truly valuable.”
