Climate Landscape Analysis for Children in the Philippines
A joint report by DENR and UNICEF
Highlights
Children in the Philippines are on the frontline of the climate crisis.
The Philippines ranks among the top nations globally for climate vulnerability, with children bearing the brunt of intensifying typhoons, floods, droughts, sea level rise and extreme heat. According to the UNICEF Children’s Climate Risk Index (CCRI), the Philippines is among the world’s highest-risk countries for children. This Climate Landscape Analysis for Children highlights how frequent typhoons, rising sea levels, extreme heat, and environmental degradation are eroding livelihoods, deepening poverty, and exposing children to greater risks. Despite the Philippines’ strong policy framework and government leadership in climate action, gaps remain in financing, implementation, and the integration of child rights into climate adaptation. CLAC calls for urgent, coordinated action to make social services climate resilient, give children a voices in decision-making, and invest in resilient, inclusive systems. Children must be at the heart of climate action in the Philippines. By investing in child-centred adaptation and resilience, the Philippines can protect its youngest citizens and build a more just, inclusive and sustainable future for all.
