Highlights
MICS Plus is an initiative of UNICEF’s MICS programme to support countries in conducting phone-based household surveys that collect frequent, representative data on rapidly changing and less commonly covered topics in face-to-face surveys.It has the advantage of real-time monitoring and reporting.
Conducted in three waves- February to May 2023, July to August 2024 and December 2024 to January 2025- the survey sampled a total of 3,699 households, with 2,226 interviewed in Wave 1, 1,991 in Wave 2 and 1,806 in Wave 3. Data was collected for household members
aged 3 years and above in both urban and rural areas, while specific modules targeted children aged 0–17 years for topics like birth registration, education and child discipline. The approach to data collection blended traditional survey methodology with computer assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) targeting a ‘knowledgeable adult household member’ and leveraging the 2021 Nigeria Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) as its sampling frame.
The Nigeria MICS Plus 2023–2025 survey highlights critical disparities in access to services, education, health, and livelihoods across urban and rural households.
