Highlights

The Montenegro Roma Settlements Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) was carried out in 2013 by the Statistical Office of Montenegro (MONSTAT), as part of the global MICS programme. This survey was conducted in parallel to the 2013 Montenegro MICS that covered the total population of Montenegro. Technical support was provided by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). UNICEF and UN Montenegro provided financial support. The global MICS programme was developed by UNICEF in the 1990s as an international household survey programme to collect internationally comparable data on a wide range of indicators on the situation of children and women. MICS surveys measure key indicators that allow countries to generate data for use in policies and programmes, and to monitor progress towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and other internationally agreed upon commitments. The 2013 Montenegro Roma Settlements MICS has as its primary objectives: To provide up-to-date information for assessing the situation of the population living in Roma settlements in Montenegro; To generate data on the situation of children and women, including the identification of vulnerable groups and of disparities, to inform policies and interventions; To furnish data needed for monitoring progress toward goals established in the Millennium Declaration and other internationally agreed upon goals, as a basis for future action; To contribute to the improvement of data collection and monitoring systems focused on the Roma population and to strengthen existing technical expertise in designing, implementation, and analysis of disaggregated data through training and practical experience; To provide data for monitoring the strategies and action plans related to the Decade of Roma Inclusion 2005- 2015. The objective of this report is to facilitate the timely dissemination and use of results from the 2013 Montenegro Roma Settlements MICS prior to the release of full tables and the final survey report that will contain detailed information on all survey findings by various demographic, social, economic and cultural characteristics. The final survey report is expected to be released in July 2014.
