Dubai, 17 April 2023 - UNICEF today announced the appointment of artist Balqees Fathi as Ambassador to help raise awareness and advocate for children's rights and well-being. In her new role, Balqees will use her voice to promote the importance of investing in children's health, education, and protection, particularly for those who are most vulnerable and marginalized.

"We are delighted to welcome Balqees to the UNICEF family," said Eltayeb Adam, UNICEF Representative to the Gulf Area. "Her passion for children's rights and her commitment to making a difference in the lives of children are truly inspiring. We look forward to working with her to support UNICEF's mission in the Gulf Area and beyond.”

"I am honoured and humbled to join UNICEF’s mission,” said Balqees.“I am committed to using my voice and platform to help ensure that every child has the chance to grow up healthy, educated, and protected. As a mother and an artist, I understand the importance of investing in our children and providing them with the support and resources they need to thrive."

Balqees demonstrated her commitment to children's wellbeing through her previous humanitarian work, including her recent contributions to raising funds for UNICEF's emergency response to the earthquakes in Syria and Türkiye which caused widespread destruction and displacement.

"I have seen first-hand the devastating impact that emergencies can have on children and families. That is why I am committed to supporting UNICEF's lifesaving work, and to advocating for the rights and wellbeing of every child," added Balqees.

As a UNICEF Ambassador, Balqees joins a distinguished group of advocates who use their talent, influence, and networks to promote the rights and wellbeing of children worldwide.
