Launch of the Libya Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS7) 2024–2025 Results

02 November 2025

Tripoli, 28 October 2025 - Today, the Ministry of Planning and the Bureau of Statistics and Census (BSC), with technical collaboration from UNICEF and funding from the European Union, launched the results of the Libya Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS7) 2024–2025.

Conducted between 2024 and 2025, the initiative reflects a strong partnership to strengthen national data systems and inform evidence-based policymaking in Libya to achieve greater equity for children.

The survey targeted a nationally representative sample of 17,880 households and achieved an impressive 99 per cent response rate.

The results cover a wide spectrum of indicators related to growth, reproductive health, maternal health and early pregnancy, as well as pre- and post-natal care and general health knowledge. The survey also addresses child health, nutrition and early childhood development; early learning, school enrollment and parental engagement in children’s learning; child and women protection and disability; and water, sanitation and hygiene, alongside equity and equal opportunities. In total, 142 globally comparable indicators are measured, including 29 SDG indicators, disaggregated by age, sex, region, urban/rural residence and wealth quintiles, covering all 22 administrative regions of Libya.

The launch event was attended by the partner Ministers, the EU and the UN Country Team members. They underscored the importance of the survey in providing robust data to assess the situation of mothers and children in Libya and in strengthening collaboration among national institutions and partners.

This was followed by a presentation of the key findings by the BSC technical team. The event concluded with an open discussion in which participants commended the results and emphasized their value for sectoral work, calling for in-depth analytical studies on priority issues and follow-up qualitative research.

The Survey Findings Report, and the Statistical Snapshot will be published on BSC and UNICEF platforms for use by government entities, academia and partners.
