Voices of COVID Generation
A project for children in Malaysia to process and learn through an unprecedented pandemic

There is no way around it; COVID 19 has changed our lives; changed us. Children & young people in Malaysia were not exempt. From school closures to an inability to socialize with friends; their lives and learning were put on hold. The Voices of COVID Generation (VOCG) platform was devised as a way to help them understand, process, and come together virtually during a difficult time for all.
Through VOCG we empower children to find strength and play an active role as global citizens, giving them the skills and space to express their thoughts, opinions, and ideas, even in these times of adversity.
VOCG is an initiative by the Ministry of Education Malaysia, UNICEF and ARUS Academy. The platform is now accessible for free to all adolescents in Malaysia. The platform features project-based learning modules that cover select lessons in subjects such as Mathematics, Science, Geography, and History. These modules are in line with local curriculum but incorporate issues related to COVID-19 to enable understanding of the pandemic.
Beyond learning, the site also features reflections from students who participated, providing a glimpse into their thoughts and feelings in the wake of a COVID-19. The reflections range from heartwarming to disturbing; and show the extent of the mental impact of COVID-19 on children that we cannot ignore.
At first I felt happy because school was closed. Then I felt empty because I can't meet my friends. I also felt helpless and bored with so many online classes. I am worried about my eyes and my exams because I did not learn much. I also don't know how my interview to be a school prefect will go. Everything is on hold. I feel helpless.
The Voices of Covid Generation received honourable commendation by the Wenhui Award 2020 for innovative education responses to COVID. You can read more about the Award on their site.
