Advancing child rights,
delivering results

In 2025, UNICEF leveraged Malaysia’s ASEAN chairmanship and preparations for the Convention on the Rights of the Child dialogue to advance child rights at scale.

With your support, UNICEF helped drive important policy changes, strengthened national commitments for children, and made sure young people’s voices were heard on climate action and digital safety.

UNICEF was proud to bring together 100 youth delegates at the ASEAN Children and Youth Climate Summit. Their strong voices shaped the Langkawi Declaration on Climate and Environment — a declaration now being put into action by environment ministers across ASEAN.

At the ASEAN ICT Forum on Child Online Protection, governments, civil society, industry and young people came together to confront growing online risks, including the impact of AI on children’s safety.

Strengthening accountability for children

The #JanjiKita campaign helped spark nationwide awareness on children’s rights. UNICEF brought young people together to share their opinions in Parlimen Malaysia and also in Geneva with the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.

ASUH KL

With your support, UNICEF launched Malaysia’s first cash-plus nutrition programme with the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), backed by the Ministry of Finance under Belanjawan 2025.

  • 650 children under five and pregnant mothers in low-cost housing enrolled in ASUH KL
  • Each receive RM150 monthly, making nutritious food more affordable and giving families the freedom to choose what suits their needs
  • Families receive nutrition coaching and community support

Future Skills for All (FS4A)

You helped the Ministry of Education (MOE), UNICEF and partners expand FS4A to include children with disabilities in government schools.

  • 240 teachers from 130 schools trained in innovative learning strategies to meet the need of all children
  • More than 10,000 children with disabilities accessed inclusive, quality learning
  • Since 2020, FS4A has reached 59,000 students and teachers across 3,600 schools

Because of you, children are better prepared for climate and disaster risks. UNICEF worked with the Government and civil society to strengthen children’s resilience nationwide.

  • Students reduced 4.11 million kg of CO₂ emissions — equivalent to planting 263,723 trees

Ending bullying in schools

UNICEF partnered with MOE and the Parliamentary Select Committee on Women, Children and Community Development to address bullying in schools.

  • Malaysia’s first Parliamentary Townhall on Bullying with Children convened in conjunction with World Children’s Day
  • 109 students from 44 schools shared lived experiences and solutions with MPs
  • Their voices shaped a Parliamentary Report that informed the Anti-Bullying Bill, tabled in December 2025

  • The Special Guidelines for Handling Child Sexual Abuse Cases was revised with the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department
  • Co-created with 46 young people, the #TakeCtrl digital campaign on sexual extortion reached 1.13 million young people online with information on staying safe and seeking help

In times of conflict and disaster, children are hit the hardest. When homes, schools and health services are disrupted, children face greater risks to their health, safety and future. With your support, UNICEF is able to reach children and families with life-saving care and protection when they need it most.

Answering the call for children in Myanmar

When the 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck on 28 March 2025, more than 3,600 people were killed and over 5,000 injured. Many children who had already endured years of conflict and displacement faced another wave of loss, trauma and fear as homes, schools and health facilities collapsed around them.

In the midst of uncertainty, your kindness provided:

  • Access to safe water through purification supplies and emergency water points for over 600,000 people
  • Essential healthcare for more than 120,000 people, including over 28,000 children
  • Mental health and psychosocial support for nearly 24,000 people, including over 20,000 children
  • Emergency cash assistance for over 44,000 people to help meet children’s basic needs

Giving children in Gaza a lifeline

For two long years, children in Gaza have been living through a crisis no child should endure. More than 64,000 children have reportedly been killed or injured, while homes, schools and hospitals have been destroyed. Because of supporters like you, help is still reaching children in this crisis of unimaginable scale.

Through UNICEF and our partners, families are receiving essential life-saving support:

  • Over 150,000 winter kits and blankets reached newborns, children and mothers in hospitals and health centres
  • More than 68,000 young children screened for malnutrition and connected to care
  • Safe water for over 1.7 million people, including more than 550,000 children
  • Learning support for over 115,000 students, including more than 60,000 girls
