Lifting People’s Spirits - Bringing Health Aid to Rural Sarawak
Sri Aman District Health Office (PKD) driver and bodybuilder uses brawn to help the indigenous
Sri Aman District Health Office (PKD) staff and bodybuilder, Nur Ridhuan Bin Jamari has come a long way from working as a mechanic at a car service centre in Sarawak. After receiving an offer to become a driver for the Sri Aman District Health Office (PKD) in 2014, the 39-year-old gladly seized the opportunity. Ever since then, his commitment to bringing health aid to the children and residents of rural Sarawak has been unwavering.
On June 26, 2023, Ridhuan went on an expedition to transport PKD health officers, medical equipment, and medicine to Ulu Skrang, Sarawak. He makes his way to the Nanga Pelor Council longhouse in a Toyota Hilux 2.8 Rogue Diesel, generously donated through the Government of Japan’s Last One Mile Support grant, along with much needed medical equipment and medicine.
Ridhuan’s mission is part of the Mobile Clinic program organised by the Ministry of Health of Malaysia with the aim of bringing health services to indigenous folks in rural areas of Malaysia.
Ridhuan’s dedication to bodybuilding equips him with the strength to execute tasks like lifting heavy medical equipment and tackling any road obstacles they may face during their journey through rural Sarawak.
Thanks to Ridhuan and the staff of Sri Aman District Health Office (PKD), the children and residents of Ulu Skrang, Sarawak, are able to have healthcare brought to them. This Mobile Clinic programme is not only convenient and safer for the children and residents, but it also alleviates the burden of cost when travelling to the nearest clinic or hospital.
