11 February 2026

Maseru, 11 February 2026 – The Ministry of Education and Training has announced the Second Annual Prime Minister’s Education Charity Golf Day 2026, a crucial fundraising initiative dedicated to advancing quality education for disadvantaged children across Lesotho.

The announcement was made at a press conference in Maseru this Tuesday by the Minister of Education and Training, Professor Ntoi Rapapa. He was joined by key partners in this initiative: the UNICEF Lesotho Country Representative Mr. Deepak Bhaskaran, Vodacom Lesotho’s CEO Mr. Mohale Ralebitso and Econet Telecom Lesotho’s GM – Sales and Services Mr. Lebohang Ramaisa.

This high-profile event is scheduled for Friday, 27 March 2026. It will commence with a golf tournament at the Maseru Golf Course, followed by a fundraising and award giving dinner.

Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, which mobilized over M1 million and positively impacted the lives of 598 children, this year’s Golf Day aims to deepen its collective impact. The funds raised in 2025 were entirely dedicated to providing essential assistive devices for children with disabilities, significantly enhancing their learning environments and overall quality of life. This tangible impact underscores the profound difference that collective generosity can make.

The event is proudly hosted in collaboration with leading institutions committed to educational progress: UNICEF Lesotho, Econet Telecom Lesotho and Vodacom Lesotho. Their enduring partnership and strong commitment to expanding educational opportunities form the strategic backbone of this crucial initiative.

“We are encouraged by the growing interest and goodwill shown by individuals, corporates and development partners since the inaugural event. This second edition seeks to build on that momentum, strengthen partnerships and broaden participation in this noble cause,” stated Minister of Education and Training, Professor Ntoi Rapapa, during the press conference. “Education remains the foundation of our nation’s development and initiatives such as this demonstrate what can be achieved when government and society work together for the benefit of our children and the future of Lesotho.”

“At Vodacom Lesotho, we believe in the power of connectivity and technology to bridge divides and change lives,” says Mr. Mohale Ralebitso, Vodacom Lesotho’s CEO, when commenting on the initiative. “Our involvement in this initiative underscores our commitment to digital inclusion, ensuring that every child, regardless of ability, has the tools to thrive in an increasingly digital world. Investing in these learners today is investing in Lesotho's future digital economy and a more connected society.”

UNICEF Lesotho’s Country Representative, Mr. Deepak Bhaskaran, further emphasizes the importance of the initiative, stating: Our work is guided by a simple conviction: every child must have the chance to learn and to reach their full potential. The Prime Minister’s Education Charity Golf Day 2026 brings the nation together around this shared responsibility for stronger, more inclusive education.

Mr. Lebohang Ramaisa, Econet Telecom Lesotho’s GM – Sales & Services, also expresses his organization’s strong support: As Econet Telecom Lesotho, we firmly believe that education is one of the most powerful instruments for transforming lives and uplifting communities. Our participation in the Prime Minister’s Education Charity Golf Day reflects our unwavering commitment to supporting vulnerable children across the country. Through our sister organization, HigherLife Foundation Lesotho and other corporate social investment initiatives, we continue to invest meaningfully in access to quality education, assistive technologies and learner support programmes. We are proud to stand alongside the government of Lesotho and development partners in driving inclusive, sustainable solutions that ensure no child is left behind.

While Lesotho continues to make commendable strides in its educational development agenda, the imperative to expand access to quality pre-school and secondary education for the nation’s most vulnerable children remains a critical priority. In parallel with these fundraising efforts, significant progress is being made towards the establishment of the Private Sector Alliance for Education. This dedicated trust fund is envisioned to complement the ongoing efforts of the Ministry of Education and Training, strategically bridging critical funding gaps and fostering sustainable educational development.

By the express instruction of The Prime Minister, The Right Honourable Sam Matekane, stakeholders, corporate entities and philanthropic individuals are invited to be an integral part of this initiative. Participation offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a crucial national cause while cultivating professional networking.

A pledge of M50,000 will secure a coveted four-ball spot for an enterprise in the golf tournament, offering a prime opportunity for engagement and corporate visibility. Further avenues for participation and sponsorship include:

  • Branding Opportunity at Maseru Golf Course and Club House: A M20,000 pledge per hole provides prominent branding exposure throughout the tournament.
  • Table at the Fundraising and Award Giving Dinner: For M25,000, secure a table at the esteemed dinner event, where companies and business formations can formally record their education investments and make pledges via an easily accessible online platform (details to be provided upon registration).
  • General Pledges: Companies or individuals unable to participate directly in the golf event are warmly encouraged to contribute general pledges, which are equally vital to achieving our ambitious fundraising goals.

Registration for the golf tournament is available online or in person at the Maseru Golf Club.

Further details regarding the online pledging link and dinner reservations will be shared with registered participants and confirmed attendees.
