School reopening entails putting in place policies, procedures and financing to enable safe school operations, ensuring learning and the recuperation of learning losses, well-being and protection and, importantly, ensuring the right to education of the most vulnerable children and adolescents. This process of school reopening must be: (i) specific to every country context, (ii) decided upon by the Government, (iii) informed by evidence from the public health sector, (iv) guided by the best interest of the child as established in international treaties.
Likewise, it requires an intersectoral approach and a close collaboration between Health and Nutrition, WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene), Education, Protection and Gender.
