Pilot Youth-Family Reflective Dialogue, Parent Circles and Storytelling under the Culture of Care Initiative
Purpose: To implement a community pilot combining facilitated Parent Circles, reflective dialogue, process documentation and consent-based media content to promote positive parenting and contribute to efforts to eliminate corporal punishment in Jamaican homes and communities.

Background: Violence against children remains a significant child protection concern in Jamaica. Corporal punishment is sustained not only by limited awareness of its effects, but also by intergenerational experience, beliefs about respect and obedience, caregiver stress, limited confidence in non-violent alternatives, and the perception that physical punishment is a normal or necessary part of childrearing. Effective prevention therefore requires more than information: families need safe opportunities to examine inherited norms, practise practical alternatives and see non-violent discipline modelled by trusted peers and institutions.
UNICEF Jamaica is supporting the development of a broader Culture of Care social and behaviour change approach to promote positive parenting and contribute to the reduction and elimination of corporal punishment in all settings.
The contracted institution will provide community and youth engagement, group facilitation, process documentation, ethical media participation procedures, production, community screenings, dissemination and reporting. The institution will work under UNICEF oversight and in close coordination with the SBC Consultant and other partners.
