With support from the Micron Foundation, UNICEF will continue to scale the Game Changers Coalition (GCC) to create opportunities for students and teachers to access STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) education and essential digital skills.

Expanding access for young people to coding and design skills is critical in enabling them to thrive in a world increasingly dependent on digital technology. Alongside Micron Foundation, UNICEF will help bridge equity gaps and create a virtuous cycle where youth can transition from being learners to earners and shapers of a more equitable digital future.

Every year, adolescent girls and young women in low and middle-income countries miss out on USD $15 billion in economic opportunities due to the digital gender gap.

In 2025 alone, UNICEF has ambitious plans to equip 26 million girls worldwide with learning and skills-building opportunities to go from playing to learning to earning. GCC aims to complement this by reaching 1.1 million students by 2027.

The GCC brings together major video game and tech companies to create a learning experience designed to attract and retain young talent in emerging economies by combining the excitement of video games with the STEAM skills needed to create them.

Already launched in Armenia, Brazil, Cambodia, India, Kazakhstan, Morocco and South Africa, support from the Micron Foundation will extend the reach of GCC to an eighth country, Malaysia.

“At Micron, we believe that access to digital skills is essential,” said Dinesh Bahal, CVP & GM, Commercial & Components Group. “By supporting UNICEF’s Game Changers Coalition in Malaysia, Micron Foundation is helping bridge the digital divide for girls, equipping them with the tools to thrive in a technology-driven world.”

In Malaysia, the GCC will contribute to STEAM skills-building initiatives such as the ‘Next Gen TeenXChange’, a Game Jam with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation, and ‘Future Skills for All’, jointly implemented by UNICEF and the Ministry of Education with support from a range of partners. It will also support offline and adaptable learning, ensuring that students with disabilities and students in areas without reliable internet access can be included in the effort to upskill the next generation.

“This partnership is a strategic investment in Malaysia’s future,” says Robert Gass, UNICEF Malaysia Representative. “By combining UNICEF’s and Micron Foundation’s technical and technological expertise and resources, we are ensuring that children, especially girls, gain the digital fluency to create, innovate, and shape Malaysia’s digital economy for generations.”

Micron joins the Coalition in this global vision, which includes founding partner the Global Video Game Coalition, represented by its co-chairs, Entertainment Software Association and Video Games Europe, in collaboration with Electronic Arts, Roblox, Ubisoft and Sony Interactive Entertainment, and the crypto company Bitget to equip girls and youth with digital skills.
