Simplifying EdTech: Discover the Learning Cabinet
A smarter way to navigate the EdTech landscape for governments, educators and innovators.
With thousands of educational technology (EdTech) tools available, navigating the options can be overwhelming—especially for educators in the Global South, where the learning crisis is most urgent. Many tools exist, but identifying those that are truly effective, inclusive, and scalable remains a challenge.
The Learning Cabinet is a curated online discovery platform designed to solve this problem. By connecting educators, policymakers, and EdTech developers with rigorously assessed solutions, it ensures that technology enables equity in education. More than just a platform, it is a commitment to closing the education gap and equipping every student with the tools they need to succeed in a digital world.
Why the Learning Cabinet?
Launched in beta at Slush 2024, the Learning Cabinet is built on the EdTech for Good Framework, developed by UNICEF's Global Learning Innovation Hub in collaboration with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Arm, and leading EdTech experts.
Every tool featured on the platform is evaluated for its impact on learning, scalability, inclusiveness, and data security.
“With over 100,000 EdTech companies today, navigating the EdTech landscape can be overwhelming. The Learning Cabinet simplifies this complexity by identifying the most impactful, inclusive, and scalable solutions, especially for low-resource contexts. It serves as a guide for schools, governments, and EdTech developers, ensuring that every child has access to the tools they need to thrive.”
— Frank van Cappelle, Head, UNICEF Global Learning Innovation Hub
Value Proposition
Unlike many EdTech platforms designed for well-resourced environments, the Learning Cabinet prioritizes solutions that work in the most challenging contexts. It features tools that function offline, require minimal infrastructure, and align with local curricula—critical factors for success in regions with low connectivity or limited access to technology.
“The Learning Cabinet is an example of Finland’s commitment to global education. It combines Finland’s education excellence with UNICEF’s innovative vision to create a platform that is founded on equity, innovation, and quality.”
Jussi Karakoski, Senior Advisor, Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland
Each tool is accompanied by detailed insights into its infrastructure requirements, offline capabilities, and adaptability, helping decision-makers find solutions that fit their specific needs.
By prioritizing accessibility and effectiveness, the Learning Cabinet supports education systems in making informed, evidence-based choices.
Who Is It For?
The Learning Cabinet is designed for key decision-makers in education who are shaping the future of learning:
- Ministry of Education officials seeking countrywide solutions to improve learning outcomes.
- International organizations evaluating tools to support large-scale education programs.
- EdTech companies looking to connect with decision-makers and refine their products for global markets.
What’s Next?
The platform is constantly evolving to meet the needs of educators and decision-makers worldwide. Planned updates include an expanded selection of rigorously assessed EdTech tools, enhanced search functionality to match solutions with specific education needs, and a comparison feature to evaluate tools side by side. The Learning Cabinet will also introduce direct connections between EdTech providers and decision-makers, fostering collaboration and adaptation to diverse learning environments.
“The Learning Cabinet represents a significant step forward in our partnership with UNICEF. By combining Arm’s technological expertise with UNICEF’s vision, we’re building a digital learning ecosystem that bridges the digital divide and transforms education for all.”
Rosalie Tribe, Senior Manager, Social Impact & Innovation, Arm
