National Disability Act 2010
This Act adds to, and does not take away from, any other laws that benefit persons with disabilities.
Highlights
The enactment of the National Disability Act, 2010 marked a transformative milestone in Guyana’s journey toward building a more inclusive, equitable, and just society. It represents a firm commitment by the Government of Guyana to uphold the rights, dignity, and full participation of persons living with disabilities in national life.
This legislation was developed in response to long-standing advocacy, consultations, and collaboration among stakeholders- persons with disabilities, their representative organizations, civil society, government agencies, and our international partners. It reflects the spirit of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, to which Guyana is a proud signatory, and sets the foundation for aligning our national policies and practices with global human rights standards.
