Young people’s lives and future are uniquely and disproportionately affected by the climate crisis. As children and youth will have to live longest with the impacts of climate change like pollution, deadly diseases and extreme weather, their rights, needs and voices must play a crucial role in the climate debate.

UNICEF Gulf Area (GAO) has appointed young people from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as Youth Advocates for COP28. The World Climate Conference takes place in Expo City Dubai from November 30 to December 12. Representing the children and youth in the UAE and the wider Gulf region, the Youth Advocates take part in events and discussions on climate policies and bring their perspective in the conference.

We asked four of the UAE Youth Advocates what their wishes and hopes are for COP28 and what action they want world leaders to take immediately.

“My foremost hope for COP28 is a focus on addressing the critical issue of loss and damage funding. I urge world leaders to prioritize an inclusive climate financing system, crucial to supporting communities facing increasing costs from climate crises.”
