KUWAIT, 6 July, 2026 – As damaged infrastructure and limited access to safe water continue to put children's lives at risk, Sheikh Abdullah Al Nouri Charity Society of Kuwait is supporting UNICEF's ongoing efforts to provide safe drinking water to vulnerable children and their families across the Gaza Strip.

After over two years of conflict, the humanitarian situation for children and families in the Gaza Strip remains dire. Many have endured repeated displacement and continue to face severe hardships amid widespread destruction of critical infrastructure.

Approximately 70 per cent of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities and infrastructure across the Gaza Strip have been damaged, while over one million people have access to less than six liters of drinking water per person per day.

The limited number of centralized desalination plants that remain operational in the Gaza Strip are insufficient to meet growing water needs. Through this partnership, UNICEF will strengthen its ongoing WASH response by procuring and installing three reverse osmosis (RO) desalination units to help increase access to safe drinking water for children and families.

“Children and families in the Gaza Strip continue to face immense challenges, including limited access to safe drinking water," said Eng. Jamal Abdulkhaleq Al-Nouri, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sheikh Abdullah Al Nouri Charity Society. "We are pleased to build on our partnership with UNICEF to support efforts that help meet the urgent needs of vulnerable children and their families and contribute to improving access to safe water. This support reflects the humanitarian values of Kuwait and the generosity of donors in Kuwait who continue to stand beside vulnerable children and families in Gaza.”

“We are deeply grateful to Sheikh Abdullah Al Nouri Charity Society of Kuwait for its generous support to children and families in the Gaza Strip,” said Lana Al Wreikat, UNICEF Gulf Area Director. “At a time when essential services are under immense pressure, access to safe water remains one of the most critical investments in children’s survival, health and resilience. This partnership will enable UNICEF to provide safe drinking water to approximately 37,500 people, including children with disabilities, helping to reduce the risk of waterborne diseases while strengthening the resilience of affected communities. Supporting water systems is not only a humanitarian imperative—it is essential to preserving the basic services that children and families rely on to withstand and recover from crisis.” She added.
