Highlights

Young UNICEF (YoU) is a global initiative that engages UNICEF’s young professionals aged 35 and
below across all job categories. It aims to foster a more inclusive, diverse, participatory, and youthresponsive
organizational culture, while providing young professionals with opportunities to contribute
fresh and innovative perspectives to UNICEF’s policies and practices.

Its mascot, the penguin, reflects the values YoU embodies: the courage to embark on new adventures,
the strength of collective action, and the commitment to being agents of change.

In the West and Central African Region (WCAR), Young UNICEF was established in 2019, and the
network provides meaningful opportunities for staff to connect, develop across programmes and roles,
and contribute to a more inclusive, diverse, and empowering UNICEF WCAR.

Since April 2021, Young UNICEF has been active in the Guinea-Bissau Country Office, working across
both programme sections and operations, and contributing significantly to key priority areas, including
Child Protection, Health, Education, Social and Behaviour Change (SBC), and Operations.

Through their active engagement, innovation, and cross-sector collaboration, young professionals
in UNICEF Guinea-Bissau have demonstrated strong leadership, strengthened teamwork, and
consistently enhanced the quality, efficiency, and impact of results delivered by the country office.

With a diverse membership spanning different position levels and contract types—including United
Nations Volunteers, interns, consultants, Temporary Appointment holders, and Fixed-Term Appointment
holders—Young UNICEF Guinea-Bissau has become a vibrant platform for professional growth, peer
learning, and meaningful contribution to the organization.

This Annual Report highlights the 2025 achievements of Young UNICEF Guinea-Bissau, showcasing the
dedication, skills, leadership, and collective impact of young colleagues at the country level, and
reaffirming their essential role in delivering results for children and adolescents.

It also addresses the challenges they face, emphasizing that with the support of senior management
and close collaboration across programmes and operations, these obstacles can be overcome.

The report envisions a work environment where young professionals feel consistently empowered,
respected, and fully included in all aspects of UNICEF’s mission.

We invite you to enjoy the reading.
