What we achieved
30 implementing partners were trained on the Harmonised Approach to Cash Transfers (HACT) to ensure that funds transferred are utilised for intended purposes and assurance measures were undertaken. 55 programme visits, 1 audit and 12 spot checks were conducted. Implementing partners were micro-assessed before entering into new partnership arrangements with UNICEF.
Mobile money transfers were used for a COVID-19 vaccination campaign, allowing transfers up to US$ 927,582.07 and for payments to community health workers. This ensured that funds reached beneficiaries efficiently.
Financial Throughput
Supplies and Logistics
- In collaboration with partners, an assessment of the national logistics systems was initiated to enable greater coherence in support to government on procuring, transporting and managing essential health commodities and the activation of the maturity model for supply chain management.
- A Risk assessment and gap analysis on the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) cold chain was carried out to identify gaps and weaknesses and formulate mitigation measures. To improve the storage capacity due to the large number of vaccines, UNICEF procured and handed over to the Ministry of Health, 240 solar cold chain fridges and containers.
- Training on the cold chain fridge installation was provided to enable routine and sustainable maintenance. The training involved improved identification of cold chain needs, vaccines mapping, inventory management, reporting and forecasting.
Prevention of Sexual Harassment and Abuse
The UNICEF Guinea Bissau Country office has zero tolerance towards abuse and exploitation of children and works alongside other UN agencies in the implementation of a Protection Against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) action plan. Trainings are provided to all staff, consultants and implementing partners.
